Shannon Quon

PwC

Shannon is a Banking and Capital Markets partner based in Charlotte. He is currently on tour with PwC’s National Quality Office. In his current role, Shannon oversees the Firm’s internal quality inspections for audits of banks and broker dealers. During his 20+ year tenure with the Firm, he has served several of the Firm’s largest financial services clients. These clients include several of the Firm’s largest banking institutions, insurers and corporate investment management advisors. In these roles, Shannon has provided accounting and financial reporting advice on a range of topics such as consolidation accounting, revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, allowance for loan loss, mortgage servicing rights, and repurchase reserves. Additionally, he has led his engagement team through the design and execution of the audit strategy to address some of these institutions’ most significant risks. Shannon has previously worked in PwC’s Los Angeles and Memphis offices, and has completed two tours in the Tokyo, Japan office. Shannon lives with his family in Charlotte, North Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and a Master of Accountancy degree, both from the University of Mississippi.

Kacey is currently responsible for leading the execution and implementation of key DEI programs and initiatives. A significant portion of her role owns relevant processes that support external awards & recognition, ADT data and insights, as well as support other strategic initiatives. Prior to joining Synchrony, Kacey consulted with HR partners and senior leaders to embed DEI strategic initiatives into talent processes and business operations at TIAA. For the last nine years, she has held roles of progressive responsibility within DEI including program coordination, Employee Resource Group management, and strategy creation for Belk and TIAA. Kacey is based in Charlotte and has two dogs, Cooper and Desi. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts, music festivals and traveling. Her favorite travel destinations to date are Bali, Indonesia and Naxos, Greece.

Der Vang is an accomplished Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practitioner with over 12 years of experience dedicated to advancing equity for all. As an educator by training, she believes that authentic connections and transformative practices are the key to creating meaningful change. Growing up as the child of Hmong refugees from Southeast Asia, Der’s upbringing instilled in her a deep sense of resilience and a determination to uplift and advocate for all marginalized communities. Currently, Der serves as the Senior Director of DEI Enablement and Governance at TIAA, a financial services company dedicated to helping those who serve others achieve retirement security. In her role, she works as a strategic partner to enterprise Chief Human Resource Officer teams to enable Culture & DEI strategies and programs into the lines of businesses.

Nelson is a Senior Director in the EY-Parthenon Transaction Strategy and Execution, focusing on the consumer sector. He is passionate about driving transformational change across the operations, supply chain and growth agendas of clients, helping them develop strategies related to end to end supply chain transformation. Nelson lives with his family in Charlotte, NC, and holds an MBA from Emory University, and Bachelor of Science from University of South Carolina. Nelson has also served on the Ascend Southeast leadership team in the past.

Lena Chun Lee, a Charlotte native, was born and raised in North Carolina. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and New York Law in Manhattan. Lena has been active in working with non-profits & served as both President and Board Member of the Korean Lawyers Association of Greater NY, and worked as an in-house attorney at an insurance company in Manhattan. Currently, Lena is a Board member of the Carolinas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC), having been involved since its inception in 1999. She also founded the annual Asian Festival organized by the CAACC. Lena serves as an advisor on the Ascend Board and is a Board member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys NC chapter. Lena has been married to Danny Lee for nearly 20 years and has two wonderful daughters, both in middle school.

Dr. Sendra Yang, PharmD, MBA, is a trained pharmacist with a wealth of expertise spanning the realms of clinical pharmacy, academia, and pharmaceutical industry. With over a decade of experience, she skillfully navigated these diverse fields, embodying a dedication to providing clear and accessible healthcare information. Her commitment lies in transforming intricate medical concepts into easily digestible information, bridging the gap between complex science and everyday understanding. Beyond her professional endeavors, Sendra is co-founder and President of the North Carolina Hmong Women Association, Inc. Through this role, she champions the empowerment of Hmong women and girls, equipping them with the tools necessary for a brighter future. Whether strategizing for the nonprofit or engaging hands-on with interns and volunteers, Sendra is deeply invested in driving community change through the organization’s diverse programs and initiatives.

Rita Phetmixay is a 2nd generation Lao Isaan American politicized mental health practitioner, social entrepreneur, independent audio producer, award-winning filmmaker and the Founder/CEO of the Healing Out Lao’d, LLC. Based in Los Angeles, Rita’s work is inspired by her own lived experiences of complex trauma growing up as a daughter of refugees in rural North Carolina and witnessing the lack of Lao representation in media. Rita currently facilitates workshops/training focused on the topics of mental health/wellness, diversity, equity, and inclusion and is working on HOL's season 3 podcast episodes

Meet Angel, a Guzheng (Chinese Zither) performer committed to sharing the beauty of Chinese culture through music. Starting at the age of five, Angel fell in love with the instrument's captivating melodies. Although taking a break, her passion reignited in high school, leading to leadership roles in the Chinese Instrumental Ensemble during her time studying at University of Florida. Now, Angel is excited to bring the enchanting sounds of the Guzheng to audiences in Charlotte. With every performance, she aims to spread awareness and appreciation for Chinese culture, making music a bridge between hearts and cultures.
